Today's blog from the Northern Team is brought to you by Hannah and Clare.

After a very restful night followed by a very early morning, we went on safari again hoping to see giraffes and zebras.

Halfway through the drive, we got a puncture and had to wait while John and Bernard (our ranger) mended it. Whist we were waiting we spotted giraffes and lots zebras. We also saw Clapperton's francolins (which are only found in Kidepo) and lappet-faced vultures. Both of which are Janet’s favourites. Also: Senegalese rollers (also known as Abyssinian rollers), lots of other birds, crocodiles and a monitor lizard ( Bala Bala turiu in Acholi).

On the way back to the lodge the tyre punctured again! So, we walked back to the lodge while Fran and John mended it again. This caused a road block of two tour buses behind our broken down bus!

The walk was very hot but we spotted lots of rocks and had an impromptu geology lesson. The journey back to Kitgum took about 5 hours on murram roads. Near the beginning on the journey we stopped for lunch at the side of the road, and a dance with lessons from our drivers. Janet and Sarah W particularly enjoyed this.

More chats, naps and snacks kept us going until we reached Kitgum and back to the comfort of our hosts.
